John Wooden passed away earlier today at the age of 99. He was one of the best college basketball coaches in history. Not only did he produce champions on the court, he made his players great character people off the court. Wooden leaves a legacy of success as a basketball coach and as a man who shaped the lives of many great individuals.

Here’s a quote that I feel defined how he lived his life:
Material possessions, winning scores, and great reputations are meaningless in the eyes of the Lord, because He knows what we really are and that is all that matters. – John Wooden

RIP John Wooden. You will be deeply missed

After a tough and emotional year, Phil Mickelson celebrates his Masters win at Augusta today with his wife, Amy and his three kids. About a year ago, his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. If that wasn’t hard enough, his mom, Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer during the week of his wife’s first surgery. Mickelson throughout this time understandably struggled to find his game. However, he came into Augusta confident that he had a chance to win his third green jacket. He was solid the first three days and flawless on the last day which led him to a victory that he and everyone will never forget.

He said, at the end, with his voice breaking…“We’ve been through a lot this year and it means a lot to share some joy together. She’s an incredible wife, an incredible mother, and she’s been an inspiration to me, going through what’s she’s been through”.

Phil, this win makes you an inspiration to many. Not just because of your phenomenal playing this weekend, but because of the perseverance you had this entire year. Congratulations on your victory! You deserve it.

100 years ago, Milton Hershey, yes the founder of Hershey’s chocolate, started his legacy. He established the MILTON HERSHEY SCHOOL (MHS) and gave opportunities to generations of poor children confronted with insurmountable societal challenges on the path to adulthood.

As they celebrate their centennial year, be a part of their legacy in providing opportunities for poor children to overcome poverty and continue a tradition of giving back to those in need.

Saint’s QB, Drew Brees, provides some inspiration for a boy battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This boy has also served as an inspiration to Brees throughout the playoffs. Brees and the entire Saints team also desire to bring back hope to a city devastated by Katrina.

Thought this would be a good video to watch right before the Super Bowl starts. If you don’t have a team, maybe you’ll consider rooting for the Saints.

This movie is based on the true story of Michael Oher, rookie left tackle for the Baltimore Ravens. Oher grew up in a broken home, father was murdered when he was in high school and his mom is a crack cocaine addict. He attended eleven different schools during his first nine years as a student. The Tuohy family finally took Oher in and helped him out with his needs, especially with his education. With his grades up, he was able to play football and quickly became a high school standout that was highly recruited.

I look forward to watching this movie when it comes out.

Tony Dungy is the former NFL head coach who lead the Indianapolis Colts to win Super Bowl XLI, the first coach to beat all 32 NFL teams, and record-holder for most consecutive playoff appearances by a head coach.  He is also a best-selling author, and an inspiring example of what it means to live a life of faith and purpose.

In his book Quiet Strength: Men’s Bible Study, he poses six challenges to his readers. Ask yourself these same questions, and see what answers you come up with:

Preemptive Love Coalition seeks to provide Arab and Kurdish children with the essential medical care that they need outside of Iraq.

I really like what Preemptive Love Coalition is seeking to do.  They are serving these children in a way that all people are called to do – out of love. We are called to love our neighbors and love our enemies because LOVE NEVER FAILS.

PLC is raising awareness and funds for these children by selling shoes called the Klash on their website.  However, if the Klash isn’t part of your style, they encourage you to still get involved in the cause by doing something from a car wash to being a representative on your campus.

This weekend I got a chance to go to Fresh 2009!  It was awesome seeing people coming to know God during this event.  The music was awesome!  The whole was about “crazy love” a message Francis Chan speaks about a crazy love we should have for God.  An introduction to his book is below.
